Hero Deputy Pushes Wife to Safety in Life-Changing Crash
On September 1, a devastating accident changed the lives of two off-duty deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office—Lucas and Nicole Shoffner. The couple was hit by a vehicle while trying to fix a dirt bike on the side of the road, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Collision Involving Fellow Deputy
The driver was identified as 31-year-old Raymond Surber, a deputy with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. He was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado when the cr*sh happened around 11:17 p.m.

A Split-Second Heroic Act
Despite the chaos, Lucas Shoffner managed to save his wife. He pushed Nicole out of the vehicle’s path, taking the full force of the impact himself. Former Loudon County sergeant Matt Fagiana confirmed the heroic act and praised Lucas’s character, calling him “kind, loyal, funny, and resilient.”
