I got back with my ex, even though he once cheated on me. I told myself people change — that maybe he regretted it, that maybe we still had something real left. For a while, it felt like I was right. He was gentle, attentive, and said all the right things.
One evening, he took me to a quiet restaurant where we’d had our first date years ago. Then, right as dessert arrived, he stood up, walked around the table, and got down on one knee. My heart nearly exploded. I covered my mouth, already crying, waiting for those four words every girl dreams of.
